Preventing Cross Connections
You Can Affect the Quality of the Water You Drink!
What is a Cross-Connection?
A cross-connection is a physical connection (piping configuration) between the public drinking water system and anything else, including another water supply that can allow undesirable pollutants or contaminants to backflow into the public drinking water system. Backflow can occur if your plumbing system is physically connected to any source of contamination or pollution as simple as landscape sprinklers, hose attachments for utility sinks and garden hoses.
In Santa Clara Valley, some residences have access to the pressurized irrigation system. With the access of irrigation water comes the risk of homeowners cross-connecting the irrigation system with the drinking water system. If done improperly, the result could contaminate our drinking water system. Please have an inspection done by the a certified backflow Tester. A list of current commercially available backflow testers can be found on the Utah Department of Drinking Water website. For questions or concerns contact the Santa Clara Public Works department at (435) 656-4690.
