Mayor’s Message
I love the fall. Deer season has come and gone, the cows have been moved to the winter pasture, and the mountains will soon be covered in snow, at least we hope they will. Families and friends will soon gather for Thanksgiving and offer thanks for the bounty we enjoy as citizens in this great land. Santa Clara is a wonderful place to live and raise families, I’m grateful for everything the community has provided for my family. Great neighborhoods, wonderful friends, a beautiful community with high quality schools, churches, parks, and a growing economic base. Thanks to everyone involved for your efforts and good work in making Santa Clara a better place. To our teachers, merchants, public servants, employers, volunteers, coaches, religious leaders, and others who look beyond personal gain and truly care about improving this place we call home, thank you.
For example, Robb Radley and his two sons recently finished work at the Fort Clare Historic Site as part of their Eagle Scout Projects last month. They worked many hours removing some of the mes-quite trees to improve the view from Highway 91 and built four gravel parking stalls for visitors to the site. They also donated a stone monument engraved with a picture of the fort at the site. This is just one of many great projects completed each year by Eagle Scouts in our community. I still feel scouting is an important program to teach our youth leadership, citizenship, community service and important life skills. My family will continue to support our local BSA troops for the good they do in our community. Visiting with the scouts at City Council meetings has always been an enjoyable experience for me, an experience I hope will continue in the future.
Election Day is on November 7th and voters will be electing two members to serve for the next four years on the City Council. Don’t miss your opportunity to meet the candidates on November 1st at Town Hall beginning at 7:30 pm. This year there are four very qualified individuals seeking your support. Each has a different viewpoint and priorities. As citizens, we have an obligation to find the time to meet these individuals and determine for ourselves where each candidate stands on important issues facing the City. Then, let our individual voices be heard by voting on Election Day.
This community can accomplish some amazing things when it’s citizens work together. It’s been demonstrated numerous times in the past when natural disasters have impacted our community and residents or businesses found themselves in times of need. We’ve all witnessed the compassion this community can muster during times of hardship, sorrow and grief. We see it whenever some-one needs assistance. I’m grateful for that knowledge, and I hope this community will to continue to be there for our families, our businesses and our neighbors. I hope this community will always be grateful for what we have. Have a great Thanksgiving Santa Clara, and stay safe.

the crack sealing process is started. At the end of each work day the crew will come back and clean the debris away from sidewalks and driveways. If you see Public Services doing sealing on your street please move your vehicles off the street to help expedite the crack sealing work. Thank you for your patience and courtesy during these street repairs.
FALL CEMETERY CLEAN UP
Fall cleanup in the City Cemetery will begin Monday November 6, 2017—the first Monday in November. Please make sure all flowers, decorations, shepherd hooks and other items are removed from the cemetery before Nov. 6th. Remaining items will be removed by city personnel, with the exception of new burials. Flowers and decorations can be returned to the cemetery on Thursday Nov. 9th in time for Veteran’s Day remembrances on Nov. 11th. Regular cemetery cleanups begin on the first Monday of February, May and November. Thank you for helping to keep the cemetery a beautiful place of remembrance and reflection.
STORM WATER WATCH
Because regulators and authorities cannot monitor all storm drains and water bodies at once, they rely on the public to keep them informed of water polluters. Community hotlines provide a means for concerned citizens and agencies to contact the appropriate authority when they see water quality problems. To report spills, dumping emergencies, violations or suspicious activities please call the DCSWC Hot Line at 435-634-5730 or (435)-673-6712, the main City phone number and after hours number. In most cases an investigator will visit and assess the problem site.
HOLIDAY SHOPPING
We hope you will visit our local businesses first as you begin your holiday shopping. Santa Clara businesses provide a great variety of goods and services, and a more unique, personal and fun shopping experience. Pet Corner
The weather is getting cooler and as it does, we are reminded that the Holiday season is right around the corner. With the holidays almost in sight, what better time is there to adopt and welcome a new pet into your home?
For the month of November:
-Dog adoption fees are only $40
-Cat and Kitten adoption fees are only $20
All of our animals are up-to-date on vaccinations, are spayed/neutered,and our dogs are microchipped too!
For those of you who already have a pet at home, it is important to be reminded of the Santa Clara/Ivins City ordinance laws. By law, it is required for you to have your pet on a leash at all times when you are out and about. It is equally important to follow the rules and regulations of your H.O.A. Please make sure if you are leaving your animal at home, that there is plenty of food and clean water for them.
Just a friendly reminder, if your animal is picked up by animal control, or brought into the Ivins Animal Shelter, there will be a fee to pick your pet up. If it is the first time your pet has been picked up by animal control and placed in the shelter, it will be a $20 pick-up fee. The second time the shelter has your animal will be a $40 pick-up fee. For every re-occurring pick-up, the price will continue to rise in $20 increments. If your pet has been picked up and placed in the animal shelter, there is a 5 (business) day window for you to come pick your pet up. If you have not picked up your pet within that time frame, your pet will become available for adoption. The Ivins Animal Shelter wants to remind the community of these laws to ensure the safety of your loved pets.
To be informed of the stray animals that are brought into the Ivins Animal Shelter you can follow the Ivins Animal Shelter Facebook page. As employees of the Ivins Animal Shelter, we are constantly encouraged by the number of animals we are able to adopt out to great homes on a monthly basis.
We encourage you to visit the Ivins Animal Shelter. We are open Monday through Saturday from 8 a.m. -3 p.m. Come out and meet the new member of your family!
